A project our club has the opportunity to participate in is the backpack project. This project would be done in partnership with the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Foundation which supplies the backpacks.

 
Thanks to Foundation funding, these high quality packs are made available to clubs for just $3 each.  This means that providing backpacks to children in need would be a very financially realistic project for our club.

One option for distributing these packs being considered is working with the local group, Families Helping Families of Iowa.  This is a group that was founded by a local family.  Their focus is to work closely with the foster care system to make sure kids in tough situations get the best care possible.

In addition to supplying the backpacks for these young people, we may consider stocking the packs with some basic school supplies as well.  We have the flexibility to partner with other groups, or distribute these backpacks on our own.  This is just one example of how our club can have a real impact on the kids in our community.
