2009 marked the Hi-Crew Kiwanis very First Annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast. This event was launched to help our fundraising effort – to establish a strong base to allow us to fund more projects than we currently do.

This summer Hiawatha Playground, Tot-Lot and Youth in Parks programs raised money for Kids Against Hunger. This organization helps to feed starving children all over the world by raising money and organizing packaging events. The meals they send out consist of rice, soy, dried vegetables and vitamin and mineral supplement powder. Kids Against Hunger International has shipped food to over 40 countries, including the USA.

The Dictionary Project is the name of an organization formed in South Carolina. Their goal was to encourage literacy at the third grade level, and they created these dictionaries designed specifically for third graders.

This project supplies the volunteer first responders in Iowa and Nebraska with pediatric trauma kits.

A project our club has the opportunity to participate in is the backpack project. This project would be done in partnership with the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Foundation which supplies the backpacks.

Brian Turindwamukama from Uganda is enrolled at the Scattergood Friends School in West Branch, Iowa. He is there because our Kiwanis Club with others have banded together to change this one child's life.
